Transitioning in

A good introductory period supports your child to feel secure and confident in their new enironment. Our transition period is not only for your child but for you also! It allows you to become comfortable and build relationships with teaching team alongside your child. Our transition period is a two week process and looks a little like this:

Week 1—

One or two 30min visits with whanau to get to know the centre environment and teaching team.

Then one or two days of short visits without whanau

During these visits we encourage you to explore the environment with your child, get a feel for the routines and rhythms of the day, get to know the teachers, and share information about your child and what is important to your family.

Week 2—

You will Drop off for extended plays and sleeps. By the end of this week we aim for your child to be sleeping and engaging in all routines before officially starting.

Each child is different. We enable flexibility throuhgout this transition period as some children settle straight away and others take a little bit of time. We have found great success and benefit from visits first with you, then without, then visits that include a sleep before starting full time.

All about me Forms

In your enrolment pack you will find an “All About Me” sheet. This allow you to share with us your child’s special ways of communicating, ways he/she likes to be comforted, when and how they like to go to sleep, their favourite foods, important people in their lives, interests, likes and dislikes, and so on. We will frequently refer to this as your child is transitioning in to ensure continuity between home and centre, during the transiton process and after.
