Our curriculum
At Funhouse, our curriculum is grounded in Te Whāriki, the New Zealand Early
Childhood Curriculum. This framework, developed by the Ministry of Education,
guides our teaching and learning and reflects our commitment to providing high-
quality early childhood education for every child.
Te Whāriki is built on the four guiding principles of Empowerment, Holistic
Development, Family and Community, and Relationships. These principles shape
the way we support children to grow as confident, capable learners. We recognise
that learning begins with strong, responsive relationships and that children learn best
through play, exploration, and meaningful interactions with others.
Our programme reflects the strands, goals, and learning outcomes of Te Whāriki,
while also responding to the individual interests, strengths, needs, and learning
pathways of each child. We value the important role of parents, whānau, and the
wider community, and we work in partnership with them to support children’s
learning, wellbeing, and sense of belonging.
We are committed to creating an inclusive and culturally responsive environment
where every child is respected in their identity, language, and culture. We
acknowledge the importance of te ao Māori and honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi through
our everyday practice, helping children to develop an understanding of Aotearoa
New Zealand’s bicultural heritage.
The early years are a vital time for learning and development. At Funhouse provide a
rich, nurturing environment where children are encouraged to explore, discover,
communicate, and build the foundations for lifelong learning. Through ongoing
reflection, internal evaluation, and professional growth, we continue to strengthen
our curriculum and teaching practice to achieve positive learning outcomes for all
children.
